Calgary Lawn Repair — From Bare Patches to Full Restoration
Every Calgary homeowner has been here — you peel back the tarp in April, your dog’s been on the same patch all winter, and you’re looking at a lawn that needs real repair, not just a mow and a prayer. Maybe it’s winterkill along the foundation. Maybe it’s a dog urine patch by the back gate. Maybe a chinook dried out half the yard before you could even water it. Maybe the previous owner let the grubs have a field day.
Whatever the damage, we’ve fixed it. 6 years of Calgary lawn repair — from 50-square-foot patch jobs to full backyard sod replacements — and we’ve got the process down.
Common Calgary Lawn Damage We Repair
- Winterkill and snow mold — grey/pink patches that show up when the snow melts
- Pet damage — yellow burn spots, dig holes, and trail compaction from dogs
- Grub damage — dead areas where turf lifts like a rug
- Chinook desiccation — brown strips exposed to winter winds where snow blew off
- Foundation strip death — the hot dry zone next to south-facing walls
- Construction / landscaping scars — where a trencher, deck build, or tree removal tore up the lawn
- Compaction paths — worn lanes from foot traffic, garbage-bin wheels, or kids’ routes
Our Repair Process
1. Honest diagnosis — we dig into the damaged area and find out why it died. Grubs? Drainage? Soil pH? Compaction? No point in repairing until we know what caused it.
2. Soil prep — we scrape out dead material, loosen and amend the soil, and bring the repair area up to grade with a proper topsoil/peat blend.
3. The right fix for the right damage:
- Small patches (under 1 sq m) → overseed with a premium Calgary-hardy blend and cover with a light compost topdressing
- Medium bare areas → sod patches cut to match, seamed with care
- Larger repairs → full section sod replacement or hydroseeding for odd shapes
- Whole-lawn overhauls → we remove the failing turf, regrade, and re-sod with fresh premium sod
4. Aftercare plan — we give you a watering schedule on paper (morning-only, light and frequent for the first 3 weeks) and a follow-up visit to check establishment.
What Makes Our Repairs Last
- Local Calgary sod farms only — not cheap trucked-in sod that won’t survive our climate
- Proper soil depth — most “quick patches” fail because the repair area has 2” of soil over compacted subgrade. We fix that.
- Seed blends tuned for Calgary — Kentucky bluegrass, fine fescue, and a touch of perennial rye for rapid fill
- Right timing — we won’t repair in August heat if we can help it. Spring and early fall are the windows for lasting establishment
